CORNING, NY – The Foundation’s Music Man project has received a one thousand dollar grant from the Doris Bovee Foundation. This donation is earmarked for the repair of used instruments that have already been collected the project.

During the last school year, thirty-eight used instruments were collected and fourteen of these were repaired with money donated by several sources. It is important that an instrument given to a student be in adequate condition so that the youngster can use it and not be frustrated by the experience. Five of the donated instruments were in good enough condition to be used by students when they were donated, so at the current time there are nineteen “Music Man” instruments available for use in the Corning-Painted Post District.

This new grant will allow several more instruments to be repaired.

Linda Bergstrom, music teacher at Winfield and East, is giving of her time to prioritize which instruments will be repaired and she also coordinates the distribution of instruments.

Locally, Doris Bovee is remembered fondly by many people. After growing up in Addison, she was a long-time teacher at Severn. Doris was active in the Corning Teachers’ Association and served as the organizations president for several years.
