CORNING, NY – All alumni of the Corning-Painted Post high schools since 1940 are being contacted to participate in the first comprehensive alumni directories to be published for East High and for West High. The directory effort is being spearheaded by the independent, non-profit Corning-Painted Post School District Foundation, which recently partnered with Harris Connect, LLC of Chesapeake, Virginia, to compile the two separate publications. Similar directories published for Horseheads, Elmira Free Academy and other area schools have proven to be popular resources.

The over 22,000 alumni of East and West High will be receiving letters explaining the process for updating and submitting information. The names and graduation information for each of the alumni will appear in the appropriate directory, including cross-references for women under married and maiden names. There will also be an index according to the current state and town in which they reside.

In order to ensure a truly commemorative and quality publication, Judy Dwyer, president of the Corning-Painted Post School District Foundation, worked with other retired teachers in the district to locate a collection of meaningful old yearbook pictures to be included in each directory. In particular, Jean Humphrey and Robert Garrett assisted in the selection of the yearbook pictures for West’s alumni directory, while Judy Cross and Dick Perry worked on the pictures for East’s alumni directory.

Dedicated toll-free phone numbers have been activated for graduates of each high school. Each graduate receiving a letter is requested to contact the publisher, Harris Connect, to verify the information already gathered and to confirm what information he or she would like to include in the directory. Alumni are encouraged to enhance their individual biographies by adding information about their occupations, activities and/or families. Enhanced graduate biographies can be a special advantage by allowing graduates to find out what fellow alumni have been doing and how they can get in touch with old friends.

The directories are anticipated to be available by November for any graduate or organization interested in purchasing them.

The Corning-Painted Post School District Foundation is a newly functioning, independent, non-profit, volunteer organization whose mission is “investing in student success” by building an endowment and enriching educational opportunities throughout the Corning-Painted Post School District for years to come.
