“Music Man” Project Provides Musical Instruments
The Corning-Painted Post School District Foundation has announced that a very successful collection of used musical instruments for its “Music Man” project has been completed. A total of 38 instruments were donated, including: 7 clarinets, 8 saxophones, 4 trombones, 4 flutes, 6 trumpets, 2 cornets, 3 drum sets, 1 snare drum, 1 accordion, and 2 guitars.
The “Music Man” program lends repaired used instruments to students with financial need so that they may participate in lessons and band activities. Judith Dwyer, the president of the Corning-Painted Post School District Foundation, reports a total of $782 has been donated for use in restoring and repairing these instruments. Since lack of money has resulted in several instruments not being repaired, donations are still appreciated. Donation checks can be made out to the Corning-Painted Post School District Foundation, to the Foundation at 165 Charles Street, Painted Post, NY, 14870.
Instruments are loaned out based upon staff recommendations. Any staff member can turn in a nomination form for an appropriate CPP student. The form must be signed by the student’s school music teacher and principal. If there is an available instrument, it will be delivered to the student's school. The student’s parent or guardian will complete the same contract that is used whenever school district instruments are loaned out.
So long as the student is continuing to participate in band, she/he may take the instrument to a new C-PP District school. The music teacher has the responsibility to return the lent instrument to the Music Man storage center if the student is not participating in lessons and practicing, or if the student obtains an instrument for themselves, or if he/she graduates or leaves the C-PP School District.
